Is it free? Are there limits?
Yes, free with no sign-up and no daily limit. Add up to 100 files or 200 pages at a time, each file up to 100 MB.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the text on your device. The reader and each language download once from FizzyTools; your images and text never leave your device.
Which languages can it read?
39 languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Pick up to 3 for mixed text. Chinese and Japanese must run across the page, not down.
How accurate is it?
Sharp screenshots and scans of printed text usually come out with very few mistakes. Photos depend on light and focus. Words it is unsure of are underlined, so you can check them against the picture.
Can it read handwriting?
Often not well. Neat printed letters work best; joined-up handwriting usually gives mistakes.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
Yes, every page. Pages that already contain text give that text exactly; scanned pages are read like images.
Why was my image turned?
When the text is sideways or upside down, it is turned automatically so it can be read. You can turn it yourself in Check.
Does it keep tables and layout?
It keeps lines and paragraphs. Tables, columns and fonts are not kept; columns are read one after the other where possible.
How do I get text from a picture on a website?
Right-click the picture (or long-press on a phone), choose Copy image, then paste it here with Ctrl+V.
Can I save it as Word or a searchable PDF?
Download gives a Word document (.docx) or a text file. For a searchable PDF of your scans, use JPG to PDF with “Make text searchable”.
Can I use my phone camera?
Yes. Tap Take a photo, hold the phone flat over the page, in good light, with the whole page in view.
