Questions

Will it really be under 50 MB?

Yes, when it can be. We check the finished file and make it again if it's over. A very long video may be made lower in resolution to fit; if it still can't fit, we say so and show the smallest result.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Your video is compressed by your own device, in this page. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, so a large file doesn't have to upload first, and private videos stay private.

How much smaller will it get?

Balanced usually takes phone videos down to about half. Smallest file goes further. A video that was already compressed hard may not shrink much; if the result isn't smaller, we tell you and keep the original.

Will I lose quality?

A little, as with any compression. Balanced looks close to the original for most uses. Use Compare to see a sample before you start.

Why does my iPhone video look different?

iPhones film in HDR, which only some screens and apps show properly. We change it to normal colour so it looks right everywhere. It won't have HDR's extra brightness, and your original stays as it is.

Is there a size limit?

Videos up to 10 GB and 4 hours, 20 at a time. The result needs free space in your browser, and private windows have less.

Why can't this browser read my file?

Browsers can't read AVI, WMV, FLV or MPG, and not every browser can read HEVC, which iPhones use. Safari reads iPhone videos; Chrome and Edge do on many computers.

Does the file keep my location?

No. Location and device details are removed. The filming date stays so your gallery sorts the video right; you can switch that off.

Can I compress a video from a link?

No. This tool only works on files on your device. Downloading videos from websites can break their terms and copyright law, so we don't offer it.

Which browsers work?

Current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. It needs Safari 16.4, Chrome or Edge 100, or Firefox 130, or newer. Your device does the work, so older ones take longer.

Why isn't it as small as some websites?

Your device's video chip works in moments, while a server can spend far longer squeezing a file. So upload sites can get a bit smaller at the same quality. You skip the upload and keep your video private.

Do I keep my original?

Yes. Your original isn't changed. We make a new copy.
